He has corporate responsibility for coordinating manufacturing and investment planning as well as for environmental protection. His regional responsibility covers the coordination of activities in North and South America.

Born in Singen, Germany on September 28, 1953, Peter started his career in 1968 at age 15 as an apprentice machinery fitter. This early apprenticeship gave him an understanding and appreciation of the people and work performed at all levels of the manufacturing process, After four years in this position, he went back to school to complete his school education, and later qualified as a mechanical engineer in 1977 from the University of Applied Sciences in Konstanz, Germany.

Upon graduation in 1977, Peter joined Bosch and worked in manufacturing system planning at Stuttgart in the Corporate Department for Engineering Operations outside Germany.

In 1982, he took over as Section Chief and Project Manager – Manufacturing in the Automotive Group at Bosch USA, and was appointed Head of Manufacturing Department, Automotive Group at Bosch USA in 1989. During this period, he successfully managed several challenging assignments including a significant increase in electric fuel pump production capacity, streamlining diesel product manufacturing utilizing Bosch's international manufacturing capabilities in India, Turkey and Brazil, establishing and developing a process engineering department to support high-precision machining of gasoline fuel injection manufacturing and managing the introduction of anti-lock braking systems (ABS) in the U.S.

Peter was appointed Technical Manager of Bosch’s manufacturing facility in Anderson, S.C. in 1992 where he was responsible for 1,300 employees and overall management of the plant manufacturing electronic control units, sensors, relays and gasoline supply products. In 1998, Peter moved to Bosch’s Charleston, S.C. facility as Technical Manager in charge of 2,300 employees and management of the plant manufacturing ABS systems, gasoline fuel injectors and diesel systems.

From 1998 to 2000, Peter managed global manufacturing as Executive Vice President of the Automotive Electronics Division comprising 14,000 employees and 20 locations worldwide. During his tenure, the quality of electronic control units went up by 50% and the division experienced significant increases in productivity, decision-making speed and overall product quality. He was appointed President of Bosch’s Body Electrics and Electronic Division in 2000 where he restructured the product mix by adding three product groups from other divisions and selling off one product group.

In 2002, Peter was appointed a Member of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH responsible for two divisions, with regional responsibility for Australia and functional responsibility for the Bosch Production System (BPS) introduction. BPS, that has now reached a good maturity level, received very positive recognition by Bosch customers, particularly by the Asian Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Peter streamlined the two divisions by merging them into one, achieving synergies in sales and engineering. In 2004, he was given additional responsibility for the Automotive Electronics Division, with regional responsibility for Brazil and functional responsibility for manufacturing coordination and capital investment.

In 2006, Peter was appointed Chairman, President and CEO of Robert Bosch LLC with responsibility for all of Bosch’s activities in North and South America (2007 sales of $8.7 bn). He also has functional responsibility for Manufacturing Coordination, Production System Development, Investment Planning, and Environmental Protection for Bosch activities globally. He identified Telex, a maker of professional sound systems, as a good fit for the Security Division, which Bosch later acquired for $420 million in June 2006. Peter also developed and introduced a concept balancing global customer views, product standardization and regional requirements for improving the Bosch organization worldwide.
